About Frontmate
We built Frontmate so local businesses stop losing work to voicemail.
Frontmate is an AI receptionist for service businesses where an incoming call is real customer intent. It answers the phone, works out why the person rang, and turns that conversation into a booking, a message, a transfer, or a callback the team can act on.
Why Frontmate exists
When someone calls a service business, they are usually calling for a reason: they need an appointment, a quote, an answer, or help. The people best equipped to help are often already doing the work — on a job, with a patient, at a showing, or in a meeting.
Customers still call. If nobody picks up, the call goes to voicemail, and delay is enough for many callers to try the next business that answers. Missed rings become missed opportunities, even when the company is busy for the right reasons. Frontmate exists for that gap: take the first conversation so the team is not choosing between the work in front of them and a phone that keeps ringing.
Built for businesses where the phone still matters
Frontmate is built for local operators whose customers still reach for the phone when they need something done. The live product is aimed at four kinds of work, each with its own intake job — not the same script with a swapped label. See how intake differs by industry.
Trades and home-services companies lose work when the owner is already on a job. Clinics need the desk phone answered without turning the receptionist into a source of medical advice. Real estate teams miss listing inquiries during a showing. Law practices still have to pick up after hours without giving legal advice. In each case the phone is how a job, a visit, a viewing, or a matter starts — especially when the people who can help cannot pick up.
What Frontmate does
Frontmate answers the business line around the clock, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Callers speak normally instead of pressing through a menu. The receptionist greets them, understands why they called, and captures the details a person needs in order to continue.
Depending on how the line is set up, that next step can be appointment scheduling, lead capture, a structured message, routing by names, locations, or keywords, or a transfer to a human — without making the caller repeat themselves. The Features page walks through what the receptionist does on the line.
Limits are part of the product. On a healthcare line the agent stays in intake and does not diagnose. On a legal line it takes a message and does not advise. The licensed team still owns the work that requires a person.
Why we started with voice
Service businesses already have websites, forms, and chat widgets. High-intent customers still often call. They have already decided the matter is worth a conversation. If that ring hits voicemail, the business may never get the chance to help.
Frontmate was designed around that moment. The goal is a useful response — a greeting, a question, a captured callback — instead of a recording. Other channels can wait. The missed call is still the leak worth covering first.
From call to action
A Frontmate conversation is meant to move an incoming call toward the next useful action: a booking, a qualified inquiry, a transfer, a message, or a record the owner can follow up the same day. Not every call becomes a booking. Callers hang up, change their minds, or need a person immediately. The product does not promise that every ring converts. It does aim to keep the first conversation from turning into an empty voicemail.
How Frontmate works
Frontmate picks up the phone, asks the right questions, and leaves your team a clear summary. Calls, messages, and follow-ups stay in one place so nothing slips through when you are busy or closed.
The principles behind Frontmate
Useful automation
Frontmate should solve a real problem: the call nobody picked up. The product is the work, not the buzzword.
Fast customer response
The line should still respond when the team is busy, closed, or already with someone else — including after hours and peak hours.
Clear handoff
Automation should capture who called, why, and how to reach them, so follow-up does not depend on reconstructing voicemail.
Built around real workflows
Greeting, hours, transfer rules, and industry limits should match how the business already operates. A clinic line is not a legal line.
Transparency
People evaluating Frontmate should be able to see what the product does, which systems carry a call, and how information is handled. That is described on the Privacy Policy.
What we’re building toward
Frontmate’s aim is professional front-office responsiveness for businesses that cannot have someone answering every call around the clock: a local number, a constrained conversation, and a record the team can trust. This page does not publish a feature roadmap. The current product is the live calling path you can try, and the industry intake already on the site.
